fold...@home isnt something new...but im still new to it currently...
u can try check PS3 fold...@home project, it is amazing...

correct me if im wrong here..
Folding in theory is to emulate organic, Molecular Dynamics and Protein
Folding..which apparently the same as living DNA, in contrast in rather than
emulating DNA on a hospital lab, fold...@home emulates it on digital
world...it does not enables us to understand about actual living DNA like
our DNA, BUT it's like emulating living things in our very own computer...

Also for starters, Folding isnt what u can do alone, it is based on network
processing, for example, i recently joined a team in my own country, folding
a basic molecular artificial DNA, my CPU will calculate the calculation
needed along with other 60 computer (member computers) making a massive
processing network...combining that netwoek, for example there are 60
computers with quad core CPU, means the team will have 60x4 cores of
processor power to emulate those digital molecular for research purposes...
even PS3 members who fold have vast amount of members, 9 core of PS3
processor contribute to a team which have almost 1 million, so simple
enough, 1 million x 9cores to process the DNA molecule, that molecule
evolves at a fast rate till now, it's still the best folding project ever
made since the launch of PS3...

most of ppl who folding will said that it's a waste to turn on ur computer
without doing anything, which is true, turn on ur computer, even if u left
it on without anything to process, the power required to keep the CPU "ON"
state is wasted as long as CPU cycle..fold...@home is a great way to benefit
from that little CPU cycle when ure not using it to process DNA or Protein..
recent technology such as DirectCompute and CUDA allows folders to fold with
GPU processing thread making the process even faster..

some rumors that said, an artificial life will be born in digital space if
all the computer in the world contribute to a single molecular dynamic
cell...
it's not new actually, even in the TRON Legacy movie they are theories about
it, (When Sam's father found the ISOs)...

if u actually want to contribute, u could try this page

http://folding.stanford.edu/

for advance folding, u could try google it.. :)
