Quad/Dual Core thing your refering to is the Amount of Cores a CPU can have.

IMO, You'll do fine with just a Dual Core CPU, but Quad Core's are nice as well.

The CPU will need replaced if your going to replace it over the RAM,
but you'll have to find out socket information, what kind of CPUs your
motherboard supports, voltages, etc.
