Yes, there is a background color role that you can query from the
model. If there is no data for this role, the default background color
for the view is used (check its palette).
It's not that easy. There may be other factors involved: style sheets,
custom delegates... So the general answer is: "no", but in a more
constrained environment, the answer is "maybe".
