And here we see the flaw of the model.

"Support contract only" commercialized OpenSource projects don't drop a paying platform. True, they may start charging a lot more to keep it around. IBM did this with the System 36. Kept raising the price of the annual support contract until it cost more than replacing the machine with an AS/400.

To have a "Support contract only" model though, the bug database has to be reasonably clean. Fixed, not just deleted.
