But the QTimer had no parent. From the OP: rtspStartTimer=new QTimer; rtspStartTimer->setSingleShot(true); connect(rtspStartTimer, &QTimer::timeout, this, &VLCWorker::rtspStarting); That means this QTimer wasn't moved and therefore was firing on the thread that created the object.
