In a word yes - maybe. What I really need is a way to display part
of the domain name on the maps and in the listings. You have already
provided a way to use the first field of the name (Short DNS Name) as
a label of a device or link. What I needed is the first two or
three. For example - one of my clients use Site.BB.Domain.EDU for
the backbone router, Site.RB.Domain.EDU for the logger,
Site.MTS.Domain.EDU for the management terminal server,
Site.UPS.Domain.EDU for the UPS etc. Thus all equipment for a site
appears in order on all the listings. Using the short name in this
case means all the devices on the map have the same name while using
the full name means each device has a long redundant Domain.EDU
tacked to the end of the name which will not fit on many maps.
I currently use the partially qualified name and let the DNS checker
make many log entries each time it looks.
Any of several methods could fix this problem including making
partially qualified domain names work in the DNS check.
But as you know, this problem is way way down on my list of
modification requests :-)

The log file currently distinguishes elements or entries based on the
label assigned. This is good but if the label as a carriage return,
the log label only shows the name up to the CR. This saves space in
a TELNET log "live" display, but the log file does not show all the
information. Removing the CR in the label fixes this but makes the
label on the map very difficult to use.
Request: Can the log file label entry be made to simply ignore all CR's?

Subject: Logging Feature Request
From: "Charles Warlick" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Whenever a remote web browser accesses the InterMapper web server,
multiple entries are put in the Event Log. Likewise for accesses to
the Telnet server. With the recent Nimba virus attack, my log
contains almost nothing but the messages relating to infected systems
attempting to access my web server. Even on a normal day, there are
numerous web and telnet entries in my log file
In order to separate network events (which are most important) from
the numerous web and telnet messages that occur on a normal day, it
would be nice if separate logs could be used for network events and
InterMapper servers events.
For those who want to see all entries in one log (as now), perhaps
that could be made an option.
I am running Version 3.5 (PPC) on a 400 MHz iMac.

One workaround would be to change the port # that
the InterMapper web server advertises itself on.
I'm doing that with my InterMapper installation
in order to provide some security by hiding it
from the well known port #80. This can be done
in the Preferences dialog box, under "Web Server",
"Web server listens on TCP port:"
The same can also be done with Telnet.
Thanks,
Mark
