Doug: There is a known OSX bug fixed in InterMapper 3.6.1 where the text in the map header could contain incorrect, "garbage" text. I do not remember seeing a problem with an incorrect device count. The number of items in the popup menu would be the correct number; perhaps the text next to it is not being redrawn. I would suggest giving 3.6.1 a try to see if the problem recurs.
Also, InterMapper's map window on OSX are double-buffered; you can force a redraw of the window contents by resizing the window. This may help if it's a buffering bug.
