I am just beginning to evolve our monitoring to services instead of devices.
The variety of probes makes it rather simple, however I am now looking at
SQL services.

Does anyone have an idea how to probe for a functioning SQL (Microsoft 2000)
server? I know I can telnet to it on the 1433 port and if I get nothing back
I assume its up!?! Is there anything better in script or text to send to
the machine when I have the port open??

After a year of quietly listening on the list, I'd like to say thanks for
all the previous info, and thanks to a great program.
