Okay, I thought I knew how to do this... But InterMapper 3.7 has humbled me :-(
I have spent the last 3 hours trying to figure out how to make the Web Server work
with SSL turned on...
I am doing a self-signed certificate and the thing just won't work. Nothing in
Intermapper tells me it is failing... no errors. When I try to connect from Netscape
or Explorer, I get an orror message ...
Here is what I did:
Go into Server Settings, generate a CSR and new private key.
Saved the CSR on the desktop.
Bring it over to my Linux Redhat 7.3 box running OPENSSL
Sign the CSR for 20 years
Pick up the PEM file (05.pem) and dump it into the Certificates directory
Turn on the server with SSL clicked on
Hit it with the browser ... BOOM! Nothing happens.
Disable SSL, hit it again, WORKS!!
I tried to generate a DER format file instead of PEM and that also does not work.
I also tried removing the text above the encrypted part of the certificate (IIS likes
it this way) nothing still.
I have self signed certificates in 5 other servers: Two Apache, two Netscape iPlanet
and two IIS servers... all signed with the same CA... no problems there...
Can someone shed some light on what needs to be done [" EXACTLY "] ????
Highly appreciated.
Frustratedly yours,
Manny
