How about tying the e-mail address for the "Errors-to:" and "Sender's
address" fields
to an e-mail address obtained by Dartware at the time of the purchase of
an InterMapper license?

If Dartware is not offering support for the users of the demo versions
of the software, then perhaps a support requirement would be to enter an
e-mail address in those fields at the time of activation.

The e-mail address would not be required to activate the product: only
the license key would be needed for that. But, to get support from
Dartware, a proper e-mail address (perhaps the recipient of the license
key e-mail) would have to be configured in the fields above.

InterMapper could be configured such that a new (unconfigured) copy
would have mail preferences set to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (which works on
Linux and Mac OS X, but not Classic). A message at the time of the
first run could be sent to this address with directions on configuring
it for the proper e-mail address to obtain support.

Thanks,
 Mark

Subject: Default "Sender address" and "Errors to" fields for
InterMapper?

Folks:

We're getting many tech support requests from people whose e-mail
notifications
aren't working. The problem frequently turns out to be that they aren't
filling
in the "Senders address" field in the preferences.

Apparently, their mail host is refusing to relay mail with a blank
"From:"
field. And since they haven't filled in the "Errors-to:" field either,
they
aren't getting notifications of the failures.

I'm reluctant to declare these fields to be mandatory - they're the
first bit of
configuration that people would *have* to fill in to make InterMapper
go.

So the question: Is there a sensible default for each of these fields?
Is there
a value that a new (unconfigured) copy of InterMapper can set there that
will
work in virtually all circumstances?

Thanks!
