Hi all, I'm trying to craft a custom SNMP probe for the open-source Squid web proxy cache, which has its own built-in SNMP agent that listens on a different port (default 3401). This is another strange SNMP agent - it doesn't implement anything but its own MIB, leaving the OS to handle the usual stuff.
The problem is that the OIDs all show as "NULL" in the debug window and as "N/A" in the device popup window. I've also tried to use the SNMP - Basic OID probe and had the same result. I can use snmpwalk to query the agent with the same OID and it works fine. I'm using IM 4.2 (Classic, not daemon) on Mac OS X 10.3.4. The sniffer shows that IM is querying port 3401 for a list of OIDs from the regular MIB, to which the Squid agent replies "no value". This is to be expected - the standard MIB is found in the agent listening at port 161. Then the enterprise-specific OID or OIDs are requested, to which the Squid agent again replies "no value". This is NOT to be expected. The sniffer shows that snmpwalk just queries the given OID, to which the Squid agent replies with the correct value. Comparing the two, it looks like IM is using PDU Message Type 56 and snmpwalk is using PDU Message Type 55. This might be the problem - the agent likes 55 but doesn't like 56.
