The "Protocol Error" error message comes from the InterMapper server when it disconnects your client (KU_goodbye). What version of InterMapper Remote are you using?

To debug this, you can bring up InterMapper Remote's debug window by typing one of the following:

Mac OS: Command-Option-Shift-Z
Windows: Control-Alt-Shift-Z

The debug window records the conversation between client and server. The last line before the KU_goodbye should hilite the problem. It is most likely an improperly escaped XML character: < > " ' or &

Please let me know what you find.

I have a probe that uses a CALCULATION variable, but it isn't working
that great. It'll import, but when I attempt to add it to a map I get
a strange error.

"Protocol Error: Illegal first char in attribute name."

And my Intermapper Remote closes connection to the Intermapper server.
Google is failing me on that message. So right now I'm trying to see
where the problem may lay. The actual Variable line is the following
one:

FreeSize, ((${TotalBlocks}-${UsedBlocks})*${AllocSize}), CALCULATION, "Free
space on volume"

Any hints on where to look for a problem?
