A lot depends on the operating system the server is running, and what MIB objects you're interested in.
For example, Windows includes native SNMP support, which can give you interface statistics (among lots of other things). On Windows XP, you install it from the Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>Add/Remove Windows Components>Management and Monitoring Tools>Simple Network Management Protocol. You configure it from the MMC console, under Services>SNMP Service. Most OSes include some level of SNMP support. There's a widely-implemented MIB called the Host Resources MIB, which is described in RFC 1514. IM has a built-in probe for this MIB, which can tell you all sorts of cool things about a computer. Compaq/HP also distributes their own management agent, which is SNMP-based. I've seen Windows and Novell versions. They've got their own private MIB. I wrote an IM probe that queries parts of this MIB, it's on Intermapper's custom probes page: http://www.intermapper.com/contrib/customprobes.html Anyway, you should be able to do what you want without a lot of trouble. SNMP isn't configured on our S7000 and the vendor who maintains it and the proprietary software on it doesn't seem to know much about SNMP, so we're not getting very far. I just want to be able to use InterMapper's built-in SNMP or SNMPv2 probe to get interface statistics. Can it be done? -- Chip Old (Francis E.
