When a port goes down on a switch, and a notification is sent, the only
information given is the port name. If there's a longer label attached
to the port - that information is not sent.
For example, we have buildings where there's a central switch that feeds
a number of customers within the building. On the map there's a switch
and it's associated interfaces.
The interface label is something like the following:
<Port Name> to ACME Industries
But when this port (we'll call it FastEthernet0/5) goes down the
notification only show that there's an Alarm because FastEthernet0/5 is
down. When you have hundreds of ports across many different devices it's
hard to keep track of what's what simply by port name.
It would be nice if the notifications used the full interface label, or
at least had the option to.
