I have this feeling that, the way this works now is how it *originally* worked under OS-9, but that after requests it was changed, for IM under OS-9, to match your request above. Then when Traditional under OS-X came into being, it "reverted" to current
behaviour (but this may be a wishful-thinking memory :-)
In any event I agree with Jonathan.
