FYI... We ran it for a while in a Debian VM, where the Vmware Server was a
Debian box as well. We had no troubles other than high CPU usage because
of problems with another VM, so we moved it to its own little P4 1.7ghz
box, since I didnt like the idea of our NMS being subject to other VMs on
the server.
The only "issue" with running a Linux VM is that you have to make sure to
compile the guest kernel with the HZ=100, otherwise you'll have clock and
timing issues, not sure if this would effect the no SNMP response though
(sounds like it might). If you run ntpdate twice in a couple minutes, and
it has to adjust the time more than 0.01 seconds, you may have an
issue.. this time problem gets alot worse with high CPU load as well.

Christopher,
I am currently running VMWare server 1.0.1 on a Windows 2K server and
have a Debian 3.1 guest that hosts our Intermapper.
We are experiencing a lot of "No SNMP response" error and I wanted to
know if anyone else has seen such things running under VMWare.
I have been working with Janice at Dartware and she has been extremely
helpful thus far.
