Hi all

Thank you for your suggestions! It's great to see how our customers are
using InterMapper and the ways the product can be improved. I have created
enhancement requests for each of Kevin's requests. Regarding the request for
third-party authentication, stay tuned for more details in the upcoming
year!

Many thanks to all.

Subject: RE: [IM-Talk] Multiple Probes

Hello Group,

I am trying to push the opportunities that Intermapper can provide.

To really make Intermapper a true enterprise application in the eyes of some
of our engineers, things like redundancy and graduated administrative
control would make selling Intermapper further in our government department
an easier chore.

Redundancy

The ability to have Intermapper automatically replicate map and chart data
between several servers.

This could be done manually by copying the Intermapper Settings folder but
this introduces the opportunity for people errors.

This could also be done by any of several folder replication applications
out there, but that introduces yet another application.

But, if we had a wish list we would dream to have a system where Intermapper
can set up something like an array with one Intermapper replicating to other
Intermappers.

Icing on the cake would be that an automatic mechanism could be available
where one backup Intermapper would start up when the current one "dies".
A polling system would have the servers interrogating each other for status
and deciding who should be "alive" and who should be in "stand-by".

Graduated Administrative Control

At the moment only an account in the administrator group can actually create
a map.

Currently, we have an admin create a blank map and then grant permissions to
it for the group requesting.

We would like the ability to grant a group permission to also create maps
who are not "administrators" as admins have control over all maps (and the
entire server). Create a map but not have server admin rights.

One of the objectives is to have different groups "share" Intermapper so
that network monitoring/scanning/reporting are centred in one managed
application. Having the ability the create their own maps, groups would not
need to ask the central admin to make one for them.

And one more ............

In the administrative area, it would also be great if Intermapper could use
a different user database such as Active Directory. Our network community
is trying to discourage separate user databases with the ever present idea
of single sign on.

Well, that's enough for now.

I would appreciate your opinions on the viability of this wish list.

Thanks,

Kevin
