I'm running 4.5.1 and onto my 2nd year waiting for this feature request,
and maybe its there, but I dont know it.
Anyway, I'd like a custom, command-line probe to have the ability to change
the display name of a device. Sometimes, the device is not an IP address,
so it cant do an nslookup on it. Other times, its a switch or AP that does
not have SNMP, so I wrote a custom probe for it, and we don't normally put
our switches in DNS.
It would be just so much nicer to just add a device, and let the script
update the name, rather than having to change things all the time when
things get moved, added, swapped out, etc.. I really hate having to rely
on static names that have been assigned into intermapper itself.
If anyone knows of a way to do this, please let me know!...
