Folks,

This is what we do here to monitor Stackable Cisco 3750's - it fits our requirement - which is to know if there has been a failure of a stack module.

We've tried

a) looking for a "global status" variable in the Cisco MIBs - No joy !
b) monitoring traps emitted by the switch - possible but not really what we want c) with recent switch firmware (12.2(25)SEE1) - monitoring the interswitch links. We make these as small as possible on a map (see below) - but because they are 'not hidden' - then intermapper will warn when one of these interfaces fail. (ie we use the standard Cisco process & memory pool probe & from the interfaces window hide all but the interfaces entitled "StackSub-St1-1","StackSub-St1-2", "StackSub-St2-1" etc)

How we put a 3750 switch on an intermapper map (using Intermapper 4.5.x)

0) Add the switch to the map as usual
1) Set the interswitch interfaces ("StackSub-St1-1" etc) to display (hide the rest) (from Monitor Interfaces)

You can leave it like this - but if you want to hide the interswitch links from view then

2) Delete the label from each of these ports (from Format Label - unfortunately one a at time - Intermapper folks - the Hide Label tick box doesn't work if selecting multiple ports). 3) Select all these "port icons" & from format Icon choose an icon of type Built-in shapes/text. This removes the default network/port oval from the end of the link. 4) To hide the Interface Links from view - move them over the icon of the switch itself - this effectively "hides" the interface links from view - but they are not hidden in the Intermapper sense - so Intermapper will alert/alarm etc when one of these interfaces fails. The downside of hiding from view is that if someone hides ALL the switch interfaces - then you've lost your monitoring of the interswitch links - but they can be made to be less invasive as per steps 2 & 3 - it just looks like you've got a "prickly" switch ;-o

Hope this helps

Regards

Stewart
