Cisco has their SSA agent built into the IOS, it can ping hosts (among other things) and then report the results via SNMP. It shouldn't be too hard to write a probe for this, if someone hasn't already.

Also, if you have access to the second hop router via SNMP - but it's just not reachable directly from Intermapper - you could use NAT on the intermediate router to allow access.
