I monitor several networks in far flung places. Some of these networks have
local support but their skillsets vary widely.

Just today I noticed on an HP 2824 with the SNMP probe, on each port
Intermapper shows "Promiscuous Mode Enabled" in red in the "Other Info"
field on the status page.

There is another 2824 directly connected to this one and it does not show
this info.

When I look at the switch switch at a different location the warning is not
there.

The HP website doesn't offer any info. In googling it, there is mention of
a monitor port (for sniffing) but such a port is not configured.

Being in red must mean that Intermapper wants me to be aware.

I cannot see any configuration difference between the switch with
"promiscuous mode" and switches without. The configs are very small and
very easy to compare.

What does Intermapper see to flag this warning?

Kevin
