Same symptoms on Tiger.

intermapperd process seems to try to convert maps from 4.6 version,
then dies, then tries again, that happens a few times, and then it
just gives up (no more evidence of it in ps).

When pre-existing Maps folder is removed, both the server and the GUI
start OK with Example maps. So it seems like a conversion problem.
