Hello.

Currently sound notification for a device will play iff the containing
map window is open.

I would like to suggest allowing sound notifications from the device
window, while keeping actual maps closed.

Our staff relies heavily on audio cues to catch emerging problems in a
timely manner. However, keeping all maps open tends to slow our system
down considerably (we monitor a few thousand of devices and links
distributed over numerous maps). Most of the time all we really need
open is the Devices window, sorted by worst condition. We can then
drill down to particular maps by double-clicking probes that indicate
problem conditions.

When the Devices window is selected, there already is an option to
"Mute Sounds". But it appears to be an application-wide setting that
basically overrides any sounds from opened maps. It does not seem to
apply to closed maps in any way.

Would it be possible to provide a toggle setting for sounding alarms
without map windows being open? I would really like to be able to hear
sounds with only the Map List window or the Device window open. Both
on InterMapper and Remote (sounds like a front-end function anyways,
so there would probably not be double programming effort - I think
they share a lot of code).

Thank you.
