I second this...intermapper restarts are like a loaded gun. They sporadically
send false-positives to customers as the initial polling starts up.

Not being able to disable notifications from outside of Intermapper (i.e.
through an API to the preferences file) is a huge shortcoming. I'm not sure if
IM5 allows you to make raw changes to SQL, but it should provide a facility to
make preference changes outside the GUI.

Subject: [IM-Talk] SMTP alert delay start feature.

HI Dartware,

I have noticed there are false alarms while Intermapper server coming
up. It is may be due to the some if the SNMP devices does not respond quickly,
it will say no snmpc response after 2 or 3 polls it will start responding. In
meanwhile the IM will trigger the email alert immediately will become false
alarm.

So I am requesting you we can delay the SMTP email alert by 2 to 5 minutes
after the IM server UP so that we can avoid lots of false alarm.

Regards
