But if in fact it stays like that for 3-4 runs of the probe I'd like to know even
at 3am. Note that 3-4 runs of the probe does not equal 2 min (30 sec poll). If
my page is out for 2 min I'm in a bigger trouble, much bigger then if it throws
a 500 error for a fraction of a second....

Another way to do this is to put a delay on the notifier. InterMapper detects
that it's down, but will delay the alert if you configure it that way.
In the notifier list, there are checkboxes for all the conditions, plus columns
for Delay, Repeat, and Count. See:
http://download.dartware.com/docs/UserGuide/Content/06-Notifiers/Attaching_A_Notifier.htm
If you like, InterMapper will delay sending the notification for one minute, two
minutes, etc. If the device is still in that state at the end of that interval,
you'll get the alert.
People often use this for a couple purposes:
- to ignore flapping (when a couple outages in a minute or two can safely be
ignored)
- for problem escalation - notify one party immediately, and if it's not taken
care of within N minutes, notify a second party.
