I have a map that contains my data center switches that shows the interfaces for every device that's connected. When a link goes down, the whole device goes into alarm, which is the behavior I'd like. The problem comes when I'm doing maintenance. Right now I generally will put a timed ack on the entire device so it won't alarm when the link goes down, however that has the downside that it would also prevent an notification from occurring if a different link went down. If the ability existed to simply time ack a link ahead of time that would resolve that issue. At present you can only ack a link once it is down, and it automatically clears when the link comes back up. If the link will be going down/up multiple times that doesn't really work well.
