Iirc, server string only matters when setting up a new device. Does not affect devices already monitored. You have to change it in the probe properties rather than in server settings.

I've been meaning to write this up as a feature request. The request is that there is a way to tell probes to use default parameters from the server settings and update them when the server settings update.

For example, in your case, I think there should be a check box "use default" that when checked should grey out the SNMP text field in the probe and insert the value from the server settings.

I have mixed feelings about inheriting changes but as long as it's optional I don't see any harm.

With the current version of InterMapper (and at least a few versions back) I know you can select multiple SNMP probes & use "Set Probe" to change the community string for all of them at once. This also works for other probes/other parameters & can make life easier for bulk changes like rotating SNMP community strings or switching from v2 to v3.

I know this works from a map's device list but I'm not sure if it works from the server's device list/across multiple maps.

Same for notifiers. For example, I have two network engineers that are being alerted. I'd like to be able to create a notifier for a 3rd engineer and just "copy" the settings so the 3rd notifier is identical to the first two and only the email address is different. I don't believe it's possible in the current version.

This one sounds useful though I probably wouldn't do it myself: I structure notifiers by group/class rather than having one for each person & each notifier bugs the appropriate people. If someone needs to be alerted for a particular type of problem their address gets added to that notifier.

In fairness I started doing this because there's no easy way that I know of to assign multiple notifiers to something with one click & I didn't want to have to set a bunch of notifiers individually because I'm lazy, but I've grown accustomed to it now :)
