As far as I figured out, PHP 5.3 is supposed to be released in Q1 2008, 
this means within the next 2 months, true? I'm not sure if I shall wait until
then, since the release might be delayed, but however: are you sure that
this new release can solve that problem? If so, then I'll wait, if not, then
I'll have to resume this modification...
