FWIW, I'm getting a
./configure: 91396: Syntax error: "fi" unexpected
when trying to run the configure script (on Ubuntu 8.04) like so:
./configure --enable-mbstring --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql
--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs --with-xmlrpc --with-zlib
--with-openssl --with-mhash --with-ldap --with-gd
