Now you have examples of such discussions :) More seriously, the current situation has to be discussed. For one I don't think your solution is clean or is safe enough. I remember having discussed that with other vendors and as far as I can remember, they have the same feeling. But again, it is not about preventing such things to happen. It is about thinking a little bit before adding more and more inconsistencies to PDO, with all respects to the original authors.
