Job Description *Job description:* *Design, implement and oversee highly-consolidated WebSphere Application Server (WAS) environments. Responsibilities include capacity-planning, sizing, implementation, and maintenance for new applications in the WAS environment. Additionally, the position would involve research, tool development and documentation for future WAS environments. * *This position will require a government approved background screening that verifies U.S. citizenship, education, negative criminal history and egregious financial history. * *Summary of responsibilities:* - *Gather and document business requirements of application characteristics, including third-party software requirements, backend resources, and means of implementation.* - *Design web hardware infrastructure. This includes authoring design documents and guiding them through the approval process.* - *Provide technical support to web application developers when required. This includes promoting use of best practices, ensuring standardization across applications and troubleshooting.* - *Monitor, tune and performance test activities for live and in-flight applications.* - *Provide assistance and training to lower-level web engineers. This includes creating standardized processes to simplify and standardize support engineers' role, and providing guidance to engineers from disciplines such as networking, database management, middleware etc.* *Required experience:* - *5+ years of experience, including design and advanced trouble-shooting skills, of major web and application tier software offerings. WebSphere Application Server and Apache/IHS on Unix platforms a strong plus.* - *In-depth knowledge of web systems end to end. Though our group’s core competency is web/application tier system software and hardware a working knowledge of all application components, such as RDBMS’s, LDAP, and Queueing solutions is required.* - *Good working knowledge of the capabilities of current state network devices, particularly load-balancers, DNS and hardware encryption devices. Ability to communicate w/ network personnel in their own language is a must for specifying the use and configuration of these devices.* - *Ability to ramp up on new technology quickly.
