If you're not into smart phones of one kind or another, or you live in areas
where service for them isn't that great or, simplest of all, you don't like
paying additional carrier (like phone) fees other than your 'net connection,
then the Reciva move is yet another potential boot in the nuts for the long
time internet radio aficionado.

Hopefully my Sangean won't become a paperweight like my $250 Turtle Beach
Audiotron did years back. (Yes, I know about the various projects to keep
dead radios walking a little longer but if I want to mess with computers to
make my radio work I may as well use the computer itself to listen and cut
out all the additional work.)

I was thinking of acquiring another high end radio but not now. I'm going to
wait for a radio that has the ability (and software) that enables you to run
your own fully featured standalone portal *and* update that portal yourself
or from a manufacturer maintained portal/list. There's no other sensible way
to do it, relying on corporate bodies to keep a product running long beyond
its profit lifespan is stupidity on my part.

What was it that people said about internet delivery of content replacing
shortwave?
