Hi John,

I haven't tried the new Apple TV either yet but from what I know the radio apps
on it are very similar to those on a Roku or Amazon Fire. There are some good
ones that offer functionality you can't get on a standalone device. Most of
them have limited to no ability to add your own streams. If that is not a
limitation to you and the app allows you to link it to a personal account (free
or pay) to save favorites or recall recently tuned channels, then you might
find it an easy way to navigate to music you like. Like John F., I prefer other
tools but the partner here, she likes the TV better. Finds it easier to use
than the Grace or even smartphone. Among the better "TV" apps for radio are
those from Spotify and AccuRadio, IMHO. Just about all the major services are
present though including Pandora, Shoutcast, and Live365.

A couple of other parallel thoughts on similar devices. One thing I like about
the Chromecast is the ease at which I can find what I want on the smartphone
and "cast" it to the TV. This makes listening to any source (e.g. TuneIn) via
the TV a breeze. I also can use apps on Roku to access the music library on my
file server and play any of the thousand albums there or selected tunes or
playlists. My AV receiver has vTuner built in and that allows me to recall any
favorites on my account there. I can also add streams to vTuner. Lots of
options.

Subject: Re: [Internetradio] Apple TV4 radio apps?

Hi John -

Personally, I’ve had limited experience with the “over the top” TV platforms.
My son in Los Angeles is the only one whose cut the cable tv cord so far.
We’ve been out there (from upstate NY) two or three times in the last year and
I can see how this has been developing and expanding and improving. If the 4th
gen is the Apple TV that has just come on the market, then the one they’re
using out there is the prior one. Personally, I’ve never been the "radio
through TV” user, even with cable’s music channels. In accessing Internet
radio, I mostly use either a standalone FM/Internet radio receiver (Tivoli
NetWorks, Pure Evoke) or my smartphone and the TuneIn app. Sorry I can’t be
more help.
