Most radio listening takes place in the car or while doing other things that
allow freedom for the ear, but not the eyes and hands. Podcasts permit a shift
of listening time from a set appointment to virtually any convenient occasion.
I do it while “power walking” (most) every morning. The act of putting one
foot in front of the other can be pretty monotonous and by “podding along”
while plodding along the mind also gets something useful to do.

Some of the best radio comes from the public networks of the UK, Australia,
Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and the U.S. Apart from the originating program’s
web site, most programs are made available through any number of other
amalgamation sources such as iTunes and TuneIn.

Admittedly, these are thoroughly subjective recommendations, but my interests
and tolerance for incompatible views are pretty wide-ranging. Here’s another in
a continuing series of small samplings, offered in a 90 minute scope (more of
less):

"'One China': its history and continuing relevance”
REAR VISION - ABC RN
For seventy years the diplomatic balancing act known as 'One China' has
afforded relatively peaceful relations between opposing ideologies on either
side of the Taiwan Strait. It’s also allowed Western nations to develop
economic and cultural ties with both Taiwan and mainland China. But what does
'One China' mean? Is it a power for peace? Or is it leading toward armed
conflict in the Indo-Pacific? (29”)

“Tweak the Vote"
RADIOLAB - WNYC New York Public Media
Democracy is on the ropes. In the United States and abroad, citizens of
democracies are feeling increasingly alienated, disaffected, and powerless.
Some are even asking themselves a question that feels almost too dangerous to
say out loud: is democracy fundamentally broken? How do we fix it? We
scrutinize one proposed tweak to the way we vote that could make politics in
this country more representative, more moderate, and most shocking of all, more
civil. Could this one surprisingly do-able mathematical fix really turn
political campaigning from a rude bloodsport to a campfire singalong? And even
if we could do that, would we want to? (70”)
