So, I received a Sonos Roam as a gift, and was expecting to have a smooth, deluxe, Sonos experience. It would seem, for English titled, common radio stations and podcasts, it -would- be a smooth experience.

I was trying to play the on-demand Kan (Israel) English podcast, and it was not so smooth.

I'll post my experiences. If someone else has an easier way to do things, please let me know.

For the Kan radio stations, they are included in Tune-In. As such, finding the radio stations, was not an issue. Speech recognition, is a different problem. I could not get the Sonos built-in voice recognition, or Alexa to recognize Kan, no matter how I tried to pronounce it. Alexa though, has routines. I am able to create a "when you say" in English, and link it to the Kan radio station. Google Assistant, also would not recognize Kan, and doesn't seem to have routines, but, it does allow me to speak letter by letter, K A N and then it finds Kan.

Due to the lawsuits between Google and Sonos, Google Assistant can only be used by itself. Sonos, voice assistant and Alexa can be used at the same time. Of course, each of these  services supports a different list of music services.

Back to the Kan English News podcasts (5 minute bulletin and the one hour news). Those podcasts are available on Spotify. If I had a paid Spotify account, they would be easily accessible. I do not. After much searching, I found that the Sonos supported Pocket Casts app already has both of those Kan Podcasts. As well, that application allows you to add -podcast URLs- that are not already in their database. (One can add arbitrary -radio station- URLs to their Sonos, via the Tune-In app.)

Of course, none of the three voice recognition services support Pocket Casts, even if I could use one of the workarounds mentioned above, to deal with recognizing the word Kan. Therefore, I need to pull out my phone to start those podcasts.

Before I found Pocket Casts, I ended up having the podcast downloaded to my Raspberry Pi and using Samba which the Sonos can access. Unfortunately, Sonos only supports Samba version 1. As well, while the Sonos supposedly supports AAC, it would not recognize my AAC files. I needed to convert them to MP3 first.
Thankfully, now that I found Pocket Casts, I no longer need to do this.

Hmmm,  I miss being able to press one memory key on my shortwave radio...
