CFCO in Chatham, Ontario switched off its 630 AM signal April 25 as well as its
92.9 repeater.
The station is now broadcasting on 91.3 MHz with an average effective radiated
power of 1,250 watts (non-directional antenna with an effective height of
antenna above average terrain of 132.7 metres) from a tower on Fairview Line,
Chatham-Kent.
The 630 frequency had a power of 10,000 watts daytime and 6,000 watts nighttime
and put a formidable ground wave signal into southern Ontario and southeastern
Michigan.
The AM signal had been broadcast from a 5-array site on Queen’s Line.
The move is yet another example of the decline of the AM band as broadcasters
concentrate on putting a signal over their core market while saving money for
land required for directional AM operations.
