Position in Religion and Philosophy

The Faculty of Comparative Culture, Sophia University, invites applications
for a position in Religion and Philosophy. This is a tenured position within
the Humanities Area of the Department of Comparative Culture and rank is open.
While academic discipline and specialization are open, the candidate is
expected to have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the time of
appointment. Teaching duties will include introductory and advanced courses.
The language of instruction is English, and, while not required, competence in
Japanese would be an asset. Candidates with training and interest in the
encounter between Asian and Western traditions and the ability to relate the
study of religion to other areas in the liberal arts are especially encouraged
to apply. Salary and benefits are competitive with those of other Japanese
universities. The appointment will be effective from April 1 or October 1,
2005. Applications should include a cover letter explaining research areas and
interests, a detailed curriculum vitae, the names and
addresses (including e-mail) of three referees, and a brief description of the
courses the applicant has taught or would be prepared to develop.
