The East - West Dialogue, organized by the FORUM BARCELONA 2004, under
the auspices of UNESCO, along with CASA ASIA ( The Asia House) will take
place in Barcelona from July 1st to 3rd 2004 in the Centre de
Convencions Internacional de Barcelona ( CCIB).

The East - West Dialogue, prompted by the United Nations resolution to
promote dialogue between civilizations, is intended to foster discussion
and analysis of the role of interchange between the civilizations of the
East and the West. The main aim is to promote sustainable development,
international relations and peace, and also to involve political
leaders, academics, intellectuals, artists, NGOs and governments in
pursuing this dialogue.

The East - West Dialogue is intended to be a platform for efforts to
prevent political, economic and social conflict at international,
national and local level, reducing prejudice and distrust, and
encouraging mutual understanding, tolerance and dialogue through an
active interchange of ideas, visions and common aspirations.

The short-term goal of the East – West Dialogue is to launch a
constructive and critical debate on the issues that divide and unite
East and West, with the active participation of civil society.

The conclusions of the Dialogue will be published in a document
containing the contributions of the roundtable participants and some
final conclusions in the form of a declaration.

The medium-term goal of the East - West Dialogue is to become a
permanent Forum for East - West dialogue based in Barcelona. The East -
West Forum aims to establish itself as an annual gathering at which
world leaders from all spheres --political, economic, and social and
academic-- and representatives of non-governmental organizations freely
and independently exchange ideas and views on the importance of the
relationship between East and West.

Casa Asia
Casa Asia is a public consortium founded in Barcelona as a result of an
agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of
Catalonia and Barcelona City Council. The institution, which was
officially constituted on 9 November 2001, follows the objectives

European Union's new strategy for Asia.
