Conference Announcement

"God's Back - with a Vengeance.
Religion, Pluralism and the Secular State"
73nd Annual Summer Conference
Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs (CIPA)
Orillia, Ont. (Canada)
August 5–8, 2004

In recent years, strong religious allegiances have presented
increasing challenges to secular states committed to
pluralism. The 2004 annual Couchiching Conference – from
August 5th to 8th – will examine these challenges and the
roots of the religious revival in many parts of the world.
Discussions will include religious extremism and its
relationship to terrorism, the rising influence of more
extreme religious beliefs in the governments of some secular
states, and the tension between individual rights and
collective religious rights in pluralist democracies.
