Job Announcement Japanese or Chinese Religion Assistant Professor University of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh, PA (USA)
The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Religious Studies, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Japanese or Chinese religion, to begin September 1, 2006, pending budgetary approval. Area of specialization, research focus and disciplinary training open. Preference will be given to the areas of Japanese Buddhism, pre- or early modern Japanese religion, and modern Chinese or Japanese religion, including Buddhism, popular, minority and folk religions. The successful candidate must be able to work in the relevant languages of scholarship, contribute to the undergraduate and graduate programs in Religious Studies, demonstrate an ability to work within a wider East Asian context and be prepared to teach on the theories, methods and thematic issues of the study of religion. Ph.D. at time of appointment and demonstrated potential for excellence in scholarship and teaching are required. The Department takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of religion and encourages engagement with the University Center for International Studies, the Asian Studies Center and other relevant departments, centers and programs in the Arts and Sciences.
