Call for Papers "Sovereignty, Secession and the Right to Self-Determination: Further challenges to the International Law" International Workshop Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law Oñati, Basque Country (Spain) 15-16 June 2006
The workshop will be held at IISJ in Oñati (Basque Country) on Thursday and Friday June 15-16, 2006: http://www.iisj.es Keynote Speakers: *Margaret Moore* Queens University, Canada *Michael Keating* European University Institute, Italy The application is open to any researcher who is interested in the study of nationalism in general. Suggested themes include: - Cases of self-determination. - Secession and constitutionalism. - Sovereignty and foreign intervention. - The evolution in international law of the right to self-determination. - Self-determination as a tool for conflict prevention. - Self-determination and minority protection. - The ethics of secession. - The Basque case. The deadline for submissions of papers is January 31, 2006. Submissions received later than this date will be accepted at the discretion of the workshop coordinator. The committee will notify applicants by March 1, 2006. All submissions must include a 150 word abstract and be edited for a 30 minute presentation (approx. 12-15 pp. Standard type, e. g. Times 12pt). On the first page authors must include their name, institutional affiliation, address (incl. e-mail) and the title of submission. Papers must be submitted electronically to the address below as a .doc or .pdf attachment. Please use the subject heading SSRS Workshop Submission. The two official languages of the conference are English and Basque. Submissions received on any of those languages are welcome. Please note that the organization cannot cover travel and accommodation costs and presenters are expected to register for the workshop.
