Assistant Professor in Islamic Social and Cultural Thought

POSITION: Assistant Professor, full-time, tenure-track.
Qualifications: PhD. prior to appointment, a strong teaching
record. Area of Specialization: Social and Cultural Islamic
Thought. Area of Competence: Open.

Required: A willingness to collaborate across disciplines in
Islamic Studies will be expected. Applicants should have an
awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a
multicultural population and have a desire to take advantage
of working with students of diverse backgrounds in age,
cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and
academic preparation – through course materials, teaching
strategies and advisement. Responsibilities: The teaching
assignment is normally three 3-credit hour classes per
semester. Summer teaching is occasionally available. In
addition to courses in areas of specialization and
competence, the candidate should be prepared to teach
general education courses, such as Introduction to
Philosophy; Logic and Critical Thinking. Scholarship,
committee work, and department service are expected.
Starting Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Starting Date: August, 2007.
