Call for Papers "Aliens and Nations: Citizenship, Sovereignty and Global Politics in the 21st Century" Conference 2007 Association of Legal and Social Philosophy (ALSP) Keele University Keele, Staffordshire (UK) 19-21 April 2007 __________________________________________________ Contributors are invited to consider: - justice, war and international intervention - immigration and border controls - multicultural citizenship - citizenship, loyalty and identity - environmental citizenship - nationhood, citizenship and self-determination - citizens, refugees and asylum - gender and citizenship - outlaw states and international law - transnational jurisdiction, sovereignty and human rights - freedom, security and counter-terrorism Please send a title and abstract (c.300 words) to <[email protected]> by 15th December 2006. ALSP welcomes panel proposals of up to three papers. Confirmed keynote speakers: Seyla Benhabib Professor of Political Science and Philosophy, at Yale University, who delivered the John Seeley lectures in Cambridge UK on “Aliens, Citizens, and Residents: Political Theory and Membership in a Changing World” Stephen Macedo Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Politics, and Director of the University Center for Human Values, Princeton University ALSP'07 Graduate Bursaries Competition: The ALSP 2007 conference organisers are running a graduate bursaries competition. To enter, please submit a paper abstract of 1200-1500 words on one or more of the conference themes, or on any topic that could be reasonably construed as falling under the 'Aliens and Nations' title. The deadline is 15th December 2006. We aim to offer four bursaries to students submitting the most promising abstracts. Award winners are granted a full fee waiver, a contribution towards travel costs, and subsidised membership of the ALSP. In addition, at least one of the chosen papers will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. Please direct any queries about the competition to <[email protected]>.
