Job Announcement Assistant Professor in Africana Studies Department of Africana Studies, College of Ethnic Studies, San Francisco State University San Francisco, CA (USA) __________________________________________________ ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN AFRICANA STUDIES The Department of Africana Studies in the College of Ethnic Studies at San Francisco State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level (search # 89.06) to commence Fall, 2007. DESCRIPTION: Tenure-track position in Africana Studies with specialization in Africana Studies – Theory, Methodology and Philosophy. This specialty addresses the Africana Studies department’s African-centered core and requires expertise in the leading schools of thought regarding Africana theories and methods that involve ancient, traditional and/or contemporary experiences of African people from the continent or throughout the Diaspora. The candidate should have grounding in Afrocentric research methods. Candidates who exhibit proficiency in analytic and critical theories and methods used in African centered scholarship or other relevant theoretical frameworks, perspectives and approaches are encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities will include graduate and undergraduate core courses in the major, general education and service courses as well as developing new courses aligned with their area of expertise. Potential for administrative leadership and a demonstrated interest in and vision for the future of Africana Studies that addresses the unique needs of the intersect between working with department, college and university committees, student advising, and working with student oriented programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D, in Black Studies or related social and behavioral science. RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with rank and qualifications.
