"Preserving Linguistic and Cultural Identity in the Age of
Globalization"

Welcome to the Fourth International Conference of the
Faculty of Al-Alsun, Minia University to be held Monday
through Wednesday, April 23-25/07 at the Suzanne Mubarak
Auditorium, Minia University, Egypt. The conference will be
held in collaboration with Hildsheim University, The Federal
Republic of Germany, under the title "Preserving Linguistic
and Cultural Identity in The Age of Globalization".

Conference Objectives:

- Exploring approaches to preserving linguistic identity in
the age of globalization.

- Exploring approaches to preserving cultural identity in
the age of globalization.

- Discussing issues of cross-culturalism and pertinent
active exchanges with the other.

- Communicating with the bodies and agencies concerned with
regional and international cultural dialogue.

- Providing academic and research opportunities to Egyptian,
Arab and foreign researchers in the area of language
teaching and language learning.

- Probing new horizons in the area of language teaching and
language learning.

- Discussing a variety of issues in linguistics, arts,
translation and culture.

- Touching upon the developments in the area of modern
technology.

- Considering ways of maintaining the aspired equilibrium
between cultural and linguistic identity and globalization
trends.

Expected Participants:

The conference is a cultural and academic forum for
scholars, researchers and diplomats from Egypt and several
European, American, Asian and African countries. The
following bodies are invited to participate in the event:

1- Embassies and cultural bureaus-in-Cairo of the foreign
countries speaking the languages taught at FAMU as well as
those willing to participate in the Cultural Fair by showing
their cultures.

2- Arab Embassies and cultural bureaus-in-Cairo.

3- National and International organizations, agencies,
leagues and centers in Cairo.

4- Egyptian, Arab and foreign universities.

Presentation of Papers:

- Eligible papers are to be presented in one of the
following languages: Arabic, English, German, Italian,
French, Spanish or Chinese.

- Researchers are kindly requested to present abstracts of
their papers in the language of specialty as well as in
Arabic, each of only 500 words.

- Abstracts will be evaluated by members of a jury as to
their importance of topic and how pertinent the topic is to
the pivots of the conference.

- Researchers of accepted abstracts will be notified and
will be kindly requested to submit by regular mail three
hard copies of the paper and a soft copy loaded on a floppy
disc or CD, or by e-mail.

Deadline for Submitting Papers:

- Deadline for submitting abstracts is January 31 , 2007.
- Deadline for submitting the paper in full is March 15,
2007. (A hard copy and a floppy disk)
