Call for Papers and Panels "International Justice and Human Rights: Current Issues in International Political Theory" Section of the 4th ECPR Conference European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) Pisa (Italy) 6-8 September 2007 __________________________________________________ International Justice and Human Rights: Current Issues in International Political Theory This section will cover any issues relating to international justice or human rights theories and standards, or their intersection, but with special emphasis on practical conclusions as consequences of adopting a particular theory. Panels and papers are welcome in the following areas: - The place of human rights in international political theory; human rights and their relationship (or distinction from) matters of distributive justice - International distributive justice theory; international criminal justice theory - Just war theory (justice in peace time, war time and post-conflict) - The relationship between humanitarian standards and human rights standards in international law and legal theory - How human rights ideals are sensitive to the theory of international justice one holds - The status of non-state actors - The public-private distinction in understanding international justice and human rights - Religion and international human rights standards - Institutional dimensions/political and legal structures in implementing international justice and human rights standards - International institutions and their legitimacy. This section principally invites panels and papers with a theoretical orientation although papers with an empirical component are not ruled out. All panels and papers are expected to employ rigorous analysis and argumentation. Papers should contribute to a better understanding of conceptions of human rights and international justice standards. We particularly encourage papers which have clear practical upshots as part of their conclusions either in terms of standards adopted or forms of application of such standards. Please e-mail paper or panel proposals (maximum 500 words) latest by 1 February 2007 to Dr. Saladin Meckled-Garcia ([email protected]) or Dr. Basak Cali ([email protected]).
