Call for Applications "Human Rights and Peace Studies" PhD program Office of Human Rights Studies and Social Development, Mahidol University Bangkok (Thailand) __________________________________________________ The PhD program in Human Rights and Peace Studies is offered by the Office of Human Rights Studies and Social Development at Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. It provides academics, mid career professionals, and researchers an opportunity to update their knowledge in the human rights and peace studies field, and to undertake a major research project in this area. The Office of Human Rights Studies has been offering a Masters of Human Rights for the past nine years, which has been widely recognized as an innovative and contemporary program. To this was added the PhD program which is now in its second year. As the only PhD on human rights and peace in Asia, this program offers a unique opportunity to engage, in depth, with important issues of peace and human rights in the world today. The coursework is all seminar based, where students will work closely with many noted practitioners and academics from the Asian region. Program Structure: Students are required to do two semesters of course work (taking one year) followed by 3-4 semesters (1.5-2 years) minimum of research to complete their PhD thesis. Courses include: Human Rights Theory Conflict and Security Theories of Peace and Conflict Human Rights Standards. The full cost of the three year program is about $US 10,000. There are a limited number of scholarships for citizens from developing Asian Countries to undertake the PhD. Applications close 31 March.
