Programm Announcement "Political Philosophy and Human Rights" 2nd Summer School Luiss University of Rome, Italy Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA Fondazione Città Studi di Orvieto, Italy Orvieto (Italy) 4-24 June 2007 __________________________________________________ 2nd Summer School in Political Philosophy and Human Rights Orvieto, Italy, June 4-24, 2007 Participating Institutions: Luiss University of Rome, Italy Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA Fondazione Città Studi di Orvieto, Italy Program description: The program is worth 3 credits (65 hours) The summer school in Orvieto provides an intensive study in political philosophy with an emphasis on human rights. Distinguished professors will mainly discuss original work through seminar presentations. Schedule: The first week introduces general topics in political philosophy, including: the foundations of liberal justice, the moral status of persons, theories of global justice, and approaches to rights by liberals, communitarians, cosmopolitans, and libertarians. The second and third weeks pursue selected topics in depth including world poverty and famine, humanitarian assistance, war and terrorism. Classes are held Monday to Friday, in morning and afternoon sessions. Two weekend fieldtrips are planned, tentatively scheduled for Rome and Florence. Accommodation: Accommodation will be provided in private apartments. Program Fee: $3.300 (2.500), which includes tuition, room (shared apartments/dormitory) and board, course materials, field trips, and other planned activities. It does not include travel expenses to and from Italy. Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and graduate students. Preference is given to students majoring in philosophy, political science, and international relations, although all applicantions are welcome.
