Job Announcement Professor in International Human Rights School of Business and Social Science, Buskerud University College Drammen (Norway) __________________________________________________ Buskerud University College offers education, research, networks and projects within the areas of health sciences, technology, economics/business administration, political science, teacher education, optometry, lighting design and visual communication. Buskerud University College has three campuses Kongsberg, Hønefoss and Drammen with 250 staff members and approx. 2800 students. The institution has a budget of 217 million NOK and a further 20 million NOK within external projects. The School of Business and Social Science of Buskerud University College invites applicants for the position of: Professor in International Human Rights The School of Business and Social Science of Buskerud University College is seeking to appoint a suitable candidate to the position of Professor in International Human Rights. The Professor in International Human Rights will be expected to teach and carry out research within the field of International Human Rights, defined as a cross-over field between international relations and international law. It would be an advantage if the professor will also undertake research on issues concerning the relationship between universalism and social relativism in multicultural settings. The candidate must have thorough knowledge of the various international treaty monitoring mechanisms, as well as the monitoring and implementation mechanisms of the various human rights bodies and conventions, both regionally and globally. The significance of the human rights agenda in the formulation and implementation of foreign and domestic policies will also be a concern. The professor must have a PhD as well as a solid research background in International Human Rights as the field is described above. The professor is expected to work in the city of Drammen and his/her lecturing obligations will mainly be within the new masters program in Human Rights and Multiculturalism at Buskerud University College. The masters program in Human Rights and Multiculturalism will be a joint program of the School of Business and Social Science and the Department of Teacher Education of Buskerud University College. Until the launching of the master program, the professors lecturing obligations will mainly be within the Buskerud University Colleges bachelor program in Political Science. This program has topics within the field of International Human Rights and Multiculturalism as well as other courses that the professor could contribute to. Fluency in English is required. The successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in staff meetings and other administrative matters and lecture master students in English. The successful candidate will also be expected to promote the study of International Human Rights, teach and supervise master-level students and researchers, and contribute to the administration of the masters program that the professor will be connected to. The position will have a salary in code 1013 professor. The placement in a salary grade will be influenced by professional seniority and merits. From the salary 2 % will be deducted as the obligatory contribution to the pension fund of the Norwegian state employees. The most suitable day of accession would be March 3rd 2008. The appointed Professor should comply with those laws, state regulations and formal agreements that apply to the employees of Buskerud University College.
