The Centre for Humanistic Studies offers one research
position in the field of Philosophy - Ethics or Political
Philosophy.
The Centre for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho
(CEHUM) comprises the research carried out within the sphere
of the different Departments of the Institute of Arts and
Humanities in the research lines of Literature, Language
Sciences, Philosophy and Culture. Its main goals are the
development and disclosure of transdisciplinary research in
the fields of Theory of Literature and Comparative
Literature, Linguistics, Cultural Studies and Philosophy.
Duties of the successful candidate include the proposal of
an innovative research project relevant to the Research Unit
that he/she wants to integrate. He/she should possess a deep
knowledge in the field of Ethics or Political Philosophy and
post-doctoral experience. He/she should demonstrate special
interest in Analytic Political Philosophy and Ethics and
develop projects in at least one of these subjects: Human
Rights; Liberalism; Ethics and Technology Development;
Global Justice; The Philosophy of "Europeanism"; Political
Philosophy and Public Policies; Terrorism and Ideology; The
Concept of Sovereignty. He/she should also possess a good
mastery of Portuguese and English. He/she should have
initiative and organization skill and experience in Project
management. He/she should also possess relevant national and
international contacts and expertise in collaboration with
trans and multidisciplinary projects.
The selected candidate should be also prepared to coordinate
research projects and supervise post-graduate students and
coordinate research seminars. The working language is
English.
The successful candidate will receive a salary in accordance
with the university regulations for a senior researcher. The
contract offered will have duration of up to 5 years,
renewed yearly based on mutual agreement. The annual gross
income ("índice 195"), before taxes, will be 3.101,87 Euros
x 14 months.
Applicants
Candidates should have a PhD in Ethics or Political
Philosophy. Preference will be given to candidates with
post-doctoral experience. Additional preferential conditions
are a good background in Analytic Political Philosophy and
Ethics. Candidates should have a high quality research
record and preferably 3 years of post-doctoral research
experience. The selection of any candidate with less than 3
years of post-doctoral experience must be justified and
authorized by FCT. The successful candidate is expected to
